Review:
At the age of 44, with a passion for guitar all my life and having seen many a guitarist, both struggling and accomplished, Jay Soto's fingering and picking techniques simply amaze me! I believe his ease of play and distinct style become obvious with one quick perusal of his new sophomore CD "Stay Awhile ". I'm sure it will amaze others too. Quite simply put, "THIS CAT CAN PLAY"!!!!! Cuts like "City Slicker, or "Just Like That" show that he can easily please the ears of fans with interest in the likes of such artists as Jeff Goulb, Norman Brown and George Benson. His break out track "Slammin" not only gives a pretty good insight to his penchant for cutting edge jazz guitar work but most importantly, it jams! With guest artists like Jeffery Osborne, Michael Lington, Jeff Lorber and Euge Groove one cannot help but find a cut or two to please the most discernable smooth jazz fan! The title cut "Stay Awhile" is sure to get you up and smiling with his melodic guitar tag lines. Honestly, this CD deserves a listen and with twelve tracks, each an individual work of art, you can't help but find a favorite, guaranteed! Being an obvious Soto fan and having the pleasure to have seen him perform live many a time, I am 100% confident in saying that this barely scratches the potential or talent that Jay has to offer fans of the genre or just plain lovers of good music. Believe me when I say He has only just begun! If you really do enjoy this up and coming new artist than remember a sophomore CD means that there must have been a freshman work! Check it out as well and again, you will not be disappointed!
